“Whenever I found out anything remarkable, I have thought it my duty to put down my discovery on paper, so that all ingenious people might be informed thereof.” - Antonie van Leeuwenhoek (inventor of the microscope)
Want to know how the rest of the world sees you, behind your router/proxy? Go to www.whatismyip.com. They also have a nice explanation of the ipconfig command here.

How can I hide my IP without slowing my connection?
There are a couple of ways to do that: 1. Use online sites such as http://www.hidemyass.com or one of the online proxies you can find here: http://compnetworking.about.com/od/proxyserversandlists/tp/anonymousproxy.htm 2. Alternatively, you can use softwares that will act as proxies such as TOR (The Onion Router) which you can find here http://tor.eff.org/ or TORPark - a FireFox version that comes with TOR built in. There are some other applications such as HideIP but they cost money ($29) and slow you down a bit.
