The Future of GPS Applications

I've mentioned Telenav and GMaps before. What I failed to mention was that both softwares, and numerous others, utilize NavTeq's technology to operate.

The Chicago based company was purchased today by Nokia, one of the world's largest phone makers, for $8.1bn (bn == billion).
Nokia is the direct competitor of Research In Motion (RIM), makers of the Blackberry, in the smartphone market.

So what does all this mean for the future of GPS applications on the Blackberry, and other smartphones? Your guess is as good as mine...
